President Trump'south proposed budget calls for big cuts in a broad array of domestic programs — amid them, agencies that fund the arts, humanities and public media.
Funding for the Corporation for Public Dissemination would be cut to goose egg under the proposal, and the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities would be eliminated entirely, the first time any president has proposed such a measure out.
The spending outline is what White House Budget Managing director Mick Mulvaney calls a "hard-ability upkeep," with spending increases for defense and homeland security at the expense of many other programs in the discretionary function of the budget.
Mulvaney appeared on MSNBC Thursday morning to defend the proposal.
"Can we actually proceed to enquire a coal miner in Westward Virginia or a single mom in Detroit to pay for these programs?" he asked. "The answer was no. We can ask them to pay for defense and we will, simply nosotros can't ask them to proceed to pay for the Corporation for Public Dissemination."
